This is an update of the profile of NHL that was published by Off-Highway Research in October 2007. The company is the largest supplier of rigid dump trucks in China, and is one of the world’s four leading manufacturers of the product. This report focuses on the company’s most recent activities in the dump truck sector, but also analyses its lesser interests in crawler excavators and rotary rigs.
The full name of NHL is Inner Mongolia North Hauler Joint Stock Co. Ltd. It is based in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, and was formed in 1988 through a joint venture between Inner Mongolia Second Machinery Co. of Baotou, Inner Mongolia and Terex Equipment Ltd of the UK. The purpose of the joint venture was to localise the production of off-highway dump trucks to meet growing demand from the mining and construction industries. At the time the company was established, the country still heavily relied on imports to satisfy the growing demand for most types of heavy equipment, and so it was important that a domestic manufacturing base was created.
