Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd was incorporated on 28th December, 1973 with its original business being shipbuilding. It is headquartered in Ulsan, Republic of Korea and listed on the Korea Stock Exchange. Over the last 40 years, the company has diversified its business into nine major areas: shipbuilding, offshore and engineering, industrial plant and engineering, engine and machinery, electro electric systems, construction equipment, green energy, refinery and financial services. This report focuses on its construction equipment activities in China.
Hyundai Heavy Industries entered the construction equipment sector in 1985, and its product portfolio now includes crawler excavators, wheeled excavators, mini excavators, forklift trucks, wheeled loaders and skid-steer loaders. The construction equipment sector has annually accounted for between six and 10 per cent of its total revenues during 2008-2013, has manufacturing facilities in Korea, China and India and sales in more than 130 countries with over 400 dealers.
Hyundai Heavy Industries has a number of investments in China, and the purpose of this report is to examine its construction equipment related operations in the country. For reasons of simplicity, the company is referred to Hyundai, including its joint ventures and wholly owned subsidiaries.
