This report examines in detail the Indian market for mini excavators, the first time that they have been the subject of an Equipment Analysis in the Indian Service. Extraordinarily popular in the more mature equipment markets, to date the mini excavator has found little favour in India and demand has remained very limited but there are signs that sales should grow significantly as the market grows in maturity.
Mini excavators are compact machines with a maximum operating capacity up to six tonnes and are capable of being turned through 360 degrees. The machines may be mounted on tracks or wheels, but the majority of them are on rubber or steel tracks.
The findings presented are based on Off-Highway Research’s database and information collected through a series of in-depth personal interviews conducted with the industry’s leading manufacturers and importers in March and April 2017.
All government statistics in the report pertain to Indian fiscal years, which start on 1st April and end on 31st March of the following year. For example, fiscal year 2016 starts on 1st April 2016 and ends on 31st March 2017.
