This report concerns the market for agricultural tractors in India, and is an update of the subject last covered by Off-Highway Research in June 2014. It reviews the key trends that have taken place during 2011 to 2015, and offers a forecast to 2020.
The report concentrates on agricultural tractors over 18 horsepower, divided into small, medium, and large horsepower categories. Small tractors have engines of 18 to 30 horsepower, medium 31 to 40 horsepower and large over 40 horsepower. Small tractors are sub-divided into up to 20 horsepower, and 21 to 30 horsepower, and similarly the divisions for large tractors are 41 to 50 horsepower and over 51 horsepower. Tractors under 18 horsepower (mini tractors) and power tillers have been excluded from this report.
The ‘Agricultural Background’ section in this study contains financial year data, which starts from 1st April and ends on 31st March of the following year. For example, data for fiscal year 2015 corresponds to the period April 2014 to March 2015. All other data for agricultural tractors are on a calendar year basis.
The findings presented in this report are based on information collected during an interview programme that was conducted with major manufacturers and suppliers during April 2016, and also on Off-Highway Research’s Indian Database Service.
