Last covered in April 2017 in Off-Highway Research’s Chinese Service, this report offers an updated analysis of the Chinese market for crawler dozers over the last five years, and a forecast for the next five years. Crawler dozers operating in China range from the smallest 80 horsepower models, to machines up to 960 horsepower, and are classified into three types of drive: mechanical; hydrodynamic (or hydraulic torque converter); and hydrostatic.
The mechanical drive machines are regarded as having outdated technology, but are still preferred by some customers, while the greatest demand currently is for the hydrodynamic models. Hydrostatic dozers have been gradually accepted by the market but may well increase in popularity as a result of the marketing efforts of SEM, Shantui and Xuanhua, the leading manufacturers.
Crawler dozers are extensively used in transport infrastructure, construction, mining, agriculture and power plants, while light construction and specialist applications are markets that are yet to be fully developed. The Chinese crawler dozer market became the world’s largest during the period 2009-2011, but in recent years has fallen behind that of the United States.
The findings presented in this report are based on Off-Highway Research’s Chinese database, and an interview programme undertaken in China with the industry’s leading manufacturers, importers and distributors during the first quarter of 2019.
