This profile describes Caterpillar's operations in Europe. The unit known as EAME has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland and controls the corporation's manufacturing and marketing operations in machinery in the region (except for those in fork lift trucks which are in a joint venture with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, controlled from the USA) and it has responsibilities in the Middle East and Africa.
Caterpillar is always active in the area of new alliances, business acquisitions, facilities changes and new product launches. The two largest events since 2009 were the purchases of MWM and Bucyrus, both of which were finalised in 2011. Before that time much effort was expended on coping with the massive downturn of 2009 and its aftermath. The corporation is now in a much more progressive stage of its development but most investments of recent times have been located away from the EAME area, which has suffered from the aftershock of the Lehman crisis of 2008 and the Euro Zone crisis which has been going on since 2010 and is still far from resolved.
